Refresh 010 Recap

Last night’s Refresh on Social Design Patterns was both informative and thought-provoking. Jackson shared some brief but valuable history on design patterns in general, and then led us through some of the current thinking and examples surrounding social design patterns. One which raised a number of eyebrows was the “fake follow”, which looks to now be a reality rather than a discussion. Anti-Patterns were also a hot topic, and the follow-up discussion centered largely around many of the bad patterns that have been identified. There will be more resources to follow when Jackson is able to connect us to his slides, but in the meantime, check out Yahoo’s design pattern library or Chris Messina’s flickr collection of design patterns as general design pattern resources.

Thanks again to Jackson for preparing such an engaging presentation, and to Jeff and Calvert Holdings for being such amazing hosts and showing us such a good time.

The Refresh Site and Brave Colours

The Refresh site made it into Function’s post from a month or so ago on 32 Examples of Websites with a Brave Colour Scheme. Some cool examples in the article, check it out.

Refresh 008 Recap

Thanks to everyone who came out last night to watch and discuss the webinar from Jared Spool. We drew a small crowd by the usual standards (about 17 people attended), but our discussion afterwards was Refresh at its finest.  If you were there and you learned something or shared something, feel free to leave a comment.

Mindy Wagner wrote up a recap of the meeting and we posted photos on Flickr. We’re looking forward to seeing you next month on July 22nd. We’re looking for a host / sponsor - let us know if you’d be up for it.

Ready to be Refreshed

We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone on the 25th.  We (at Viget Labs) are sponsoring this month’s gathering, so we’re providing refreshments and hosting the event at our office (908 W. Main Street, across from Brightleaf Square).  I don’t think parking will be a problem.

There is a small parking lot right outside our door and Brightleaf Square’s big lot is just a block away.  If you’re coming to our office for the first time, keep an eye out for Rainbow Chinese Restuarant on Main Street. Turn into the lot when you see Rainbow and you’ll find us - we’re set back from the street a little bit.

You’ll be doing us a huge favor by RSVPing if you are going to attend so we can plan our refreshments ...  To RSVP go to: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/288867 Thanks!

We’re planning to walk over to Aliva’s for a coffee or beer after the event, but I could be persuaded to go to the Federal instead…

Post a reply if you have any questions about the location or what to expect. See you soon.

Refresh Event, Speaker, and Topic Feedback and Suggestions

It’s understood that Refresh the Triangle is only as good as the involvement of its members, and that the group dynamic is a bit unique in that it strives to appeal to designers and developers alike. As we try to strike the right balance and take a very forward-thinking approach toward our meetings and topics, ideas and feedback are crucial.

Refresh Site Implementation Info, Site Feedback, Site Enhancements

This site is implemented using Expression Engine 1.6.0. While the group is the effort of many, the site is a bit of a learn-as-you-go type side project by member/designer pcrump to learn a bit about the ins and outs of Expression Engine. So, the features/functionality of the site are limited primarily by the knowledge and dev skills of a newbie EE guy, secondarily by the limited amount of time to invest in the site, and lastly by the limitations of EE itself. Feel free to share comments here about the site, request features/functionality, ask questions, or share your own knowledge of EE.
